"Oh, do not ask, "What is it?"

Let us go, and make our visit."

--From "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by T.S. Eliot

In 2012 and 2013, long before the pandemic, and long before the People's Republic of China cracked down on the people of Hong Kong, resulting in massive civil unrest, I made two trips to Hong Kong to visit a family member who had been diagnosed with cancer. These are some of the photos I took there.

The population of China was estimated by the World Bank to have been
1,344,130,000 by the end of 2011. It is easy, in such a place, to lose one's sense of individuality and self-importance.

This is a sculpture of Chairman Mao as an infant, displayed in a Hong Kong subway station.
