I took this picture one absolutely blazing morning during the summer of 2012. I had to go down and sit in the shade near Burnett Creek. The water's emerald color was caused by the reflections of trees in full leaf, and the stillness, at this spot, by the fact that beavers have dammed this part of the creek. The bird sat peacefully nearby for quite awhile. She was probably too hot to move, too. Tippecanoe Battlefield, Town of Battle Ground, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
